About Becky Browne
Becky Browne is a natural teacher. The holder of a degree in recreation from Arizona State University,
she has been the owner/instructor of The Becky Browne School of Tai Chi
for many years - to date having taught over 6,000 hours of Tai Chi classes
in her native Four State Area.
Becky has been a featured speaker at a wide range of state and regional conferences
on aging and health, as well as at university conferences and in classrooms.
Her energetic introductions to Tai Chi have also been sought out by numerous
support groups for medical conditions such as arthritis, Parkinson's, fibromyalgia,
cancer, and others. Corporate interest in Browne's approach to Tai Chi is
also growing, as reflected by her work with companies to conduct workshops
at company health fairs and other employee health initiatives. She has
also been the featured speaker for each of her area's major hospitals during numerous
"Lunch and Learn" programs.
Since Becky began teaching Tai Chi full time in 1995, her primary emphasis
has been directed at the senior adult population. As she points out in her public
addresses, the benefits of Tai Chi's gracious mind and body exercise coincide
perfectly with the physiological needs of the aging. Concerns such as poor balance,
weakened muscles, loss of flexibility, shallowness of breath, anxiety, retired
brain-work, and arthritis are all conditions that Tai Chi can help improve. Why
her focus on seniors? Becky tells her own story when she speaks to groups:
"Because I had the great good fortune growing up with incredibly
wonderful grandparents and great grandparents, I've always held a special
place in my heart for older people. It's very rewarding to me to see that
I can make a positive impact on their health and well-being."
Working with a university researcher, Becky has tested balance and vital
capacity (breath work) with the senior adult students in several of her
classes. The statistically significant results showed major improvement
in both categories. Exciting results have also been shown in classes Becky
has taught for "at risk" youth. Through standing meditation
and intriguing, slow movements, the visual reality of the students quieting
their mind and becoming focused is awesome. She is able to immediately capture
and keep their attention through each Tai Chi session.
Becky's energy and calmness, her strength
and softness, her focus, and her enthusiasm are contagious. Her
love for seniors, her compassion, her patience, her gift for teaching, makes
her work a joy as well as a mission. Becky Browne's mission
is one committed to improving the mind, body, and spirit of those who cross
her path.
